Lonely Angel // Selby & Friends
Our 2024 Season closes with a stunning and fascinating program of contrasting elements – from Spain to France, Latvia to Germany, this concert shines with national pride, fervour and melody and gives us insight into the incredible development over a short space of time of the genre of chamber music and, in particular, the piano trio.
Triple Treat // Selby & Friends
Beethoven once again features prominently in this incredibly diverse program featuring two of our favourite guest artists – Susie Park and Timo-Veikko Valve. The highlight of this program is a work that wowed audiences when programmed once before – Beethoven’s virtuosic Triple Concerto in Reinecke’s stunning arrangement for piano trio.
Jewels in the Crown // Selby & Friends
An S&F favourite, violinist Natalie Chee returns in 2024 for a brilliant and unusual program featuring Beethoven’s mighty ‘Kreutzer’ Sonata with Kathryn Selby. Accomplished performer and mentor Lloyd Van’t Hoff opens the program with what is considered the greatest work composed for clarinet and piano with Brahms’ second sonata followed by two of the most popular and extraordinary works for violin
Luminaries // Selby & Friends
Iconic Australian ensemble, the Goldner String Quartet in their farewell season, joins our Artistic Director for this stunning program of favourites. Beginning with a rarely played early Mozart Piano Concerto in the composer’s own arrangement for piano and string quartet followed by Tchaikovsky’s stirring string quartet in D, the concert concludes with one of the greatest of all piano quintets by Shostakovich. This is a program not to be missed as we say goodbye to an important Australian icon in a special celebration of old friends.
Golden Blues // Selby & Friends
The 2024 Season opens with a brilliant program of variety, virtuosity and soaring melody. Bringing together again the dynamic duo of Alexandra Osborne and Clancy Newman, who together stunned audiences in 2023, we present a combination of trios and duos
Final Statements // Selby & Friends
This extraordinary Selby & Friends program, the last one of the 2023 season, brings together two highly accomplished guest artists of the younger generation – the brilliant violinist Ike See and exhilarating cellist Richard Narroway, performing with pianist Kathryn Selby AM in a program of piano trios by Copland, Arensky, and Schubert
Three Stages of Man // Selby & Friends
Our fourth program of the year celebrates the three stages of man – to begin, the very youthful Lilly Boulanger, sister of the famous Nadia, whose untimely death in her twenties brought an end to a spectacularly gifted artist whose talents are easily displayed in this powerful set. We follow with the succinct genius of a mature Brahms at the height of his powers, and finally an elegy to the memory of a great artist by Rachmaninov as he remembered Tchaikovsky in one of the most encompassing piano trios in the genre.
